Restaurant, Antwerp 2016
RAS or “Restaurant Aan de Stroom” is a completely new concept in the iconic, neoclassical style building, built in1886. Reconstructed by architect bOb van Reeth early 90s, a major renovation of the infrastructure imposed itself after 25 years. Co.Studio, alumni of bOb van Reeth, restyled the interior creating a contemporary experience and more visibility towards the river, while the young and talented artist Rinus Van de Velde custom-created 4 monumental charcoal drawings for RAS. Other then respecting the authentic architecture, improving acoustic performance, creating more warmth and intimacy as well as increasing the venue’s capacity – the most nerve wracking challenge was to start and finish the renovations within a highly limited time frame – the restaurant was closed for only 25 days – . Eight Months of intensive planning and working closely with all contractors involved made it possible to achieve this challenge.
